Planning and follow-up department
The General Administration of Production supervises the implementation of all operations related to petroleum engineering, including drilling wells, monitoring reservoir performance, and oil production. It consists of the following departments:
The Reservoir Engineering Department conducts various reservoir studies for the purpose of evaluating the quantities of oil and gas discovered and classifying them according to their reliability, and then determining the driving energy of gas and water and calculating the initial recovery factor. It is also concerned with using the best methods in order to extract the largest economic quantity of oil from the fields by increasing the recovery rate through conventional and conventional non-traditional methods. Reservoir engineers also make future predictions of production rates by developing a plan to develop and deplete fields through a timetable in which drilling and production operations are coordinated, taking into account the proven quantities of oil reserves and available budgets. |
The Production Engineering Department is one of the pillars of oil production at the Arabian Gulf Company, and its job specifically is to follow up on the delivery of oil from the well to the surface of the earth and from there to other production facilities. Production engineering consists of a manager and three supervisors (Site Supervisor (following up and managing production matters at the sites) – Well Maintenance Operations Engineering Supervisor (following up the maintenance platforms in implementing their programs and preparing special daily reports) – Headquarters Supervisor – (following up and managing production matters at the headquarters and production reports)) As well as the production information coordinator at headquarters. Hence, production engineering is generally linked to other departments, especially drilling engineering, reservoir engineering, and geology, in technical cooperation in completing, maintaining, or conducting tests for wells for development or exploratory fields. The methods of producing wells in the company’s fields vary according to the following table:
Natural Flow | ESP | Sucker Rod | Gas Lifting |
---|---|---|---|
13 | 662 | 97 | 123 |
The work and activity of the administration is focused on the following:
- Preparing programs to complete wells that have been drilled, and preparing maintenance programs for wells that have stopped producing, which include (isolating oil-associated water – re-perforating – installing a new casing tube – repairing leaks in the internal tubes of the well – wellhead maintenance – treating wells with acids – installing rubber insulators inside Wells – testing casing tube for leakage – re-completion – controlling sand production – installing and changing gas lift valves – hydraulic fracturing). Also, preparing programs for wells that are unable to produce as a result of oil running out or a very high level of water, or those that have large leaks that are impossible to repair and turn them into observation wells.
- Preparing maintenance programs for submersible electric pumps, following up on their malfunctions, preparing designs for them and then maintaining them with specialized companies, as well as following up on the landing of water production pumps used for injection in the Nafoura field and water wells used by the Loss Prevention and Operations departments.
This is in addition to the following tasks related to pump maintenance:
- Maintenance of submersible electric pump cables. Maintenance of rubber insulators in all of the company’s fields.
- Preparing designs and maintaining mechanical pumps and reusing them in Al-Bayda and Al-Hamada fields.
- Preparing designs and repairing gas valves in Nafoura field. Follow up on obtaining production narratives through the company-owned unit and qualify engineers.
- Preparing daily and monthly production reports, production distribution reports, annual reports, and the oil movement report.
- Participate in preparing the annual crude oil inventory report. Follow up on shipping operations at Hariga Port.
- Assisting the Reservoir Engineering Department in preparing the company’s oil and gas reserve report by conducting well tests and measuring and evaluating the wells’ subsurface pressures.
- Preparing production report to support production capacity.
- Training and developing users in coordination with the Training and Development Department.
- Procurement of production equipment for wells for producing or under-development development fields that will be put on production.
The Drilling Department is one of the company’s technical departments. It carries out the work of drilling development wells in accordance with the approved plan prepared by the Reservoir Engineering Department, as well as drilling exploratory wells in accordance with the approved plan prepared by the Geology Department. The Department also drills water wells for the purpose of supplying the water needed for drilling fluids. And for other industrial purposes for various departments of the company. It also provides drilling rigs, materials, equipment and technical services to support drilling operations. Among the tasks of drilling engineers is developing engineering designs for various well drilling programs and preparing technical and periodic reports through effective coordination and supervision, in addition to careful follow-up of drilling operations, and also following up on new technologies in the field of drilling engineering and keeping pace with developments in it. A laboratory has been developed. |
